July 9, 2008: Iraq insists on U.S. withdrawal timetable

Iraq insists on U.S. withdrawal timetable

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq will not accept any security agreement with the United States unless it includes dates for the withdrawal of foreign forces, the government's national security adviser said on Tuesday.

So even the Iraqis want us out? According to the article the Iraqi government well not accept further deals with the US unless a time table is set for US troop width drawl. The Bush Administration states that if a time table is set than "enemy" forces will lie low till the US forces leave and come out with a surge of attacks. This brings up the valid point if Iraq is able to defend and protect itself from...well itself. So often I see in this article that everything depends on the condition on the ground. How true this is.
This seems simple enough as it is. As conditions increase we take troops away. As they worsen we poor more troops in. We would all like for the troops to come home and for everything to be okay. But the reality is that not everything is okay right now. So the troops do need to stay until that sense of peace can be restored. From what I have heard about the current condition of Iraq, there is no way they could survive without US occupation. But, there are probably areas that do not need as much protection, and those troops should be sent home. Simple as high school algebra. Unless of course, your actually there.

When your friend is hurting, you try to support him. But, of course without getting to up-close and personal, right now we may be a little too close.
